Board Members
Kaushalya (Kausi) Subramaniam, the current President of Alamo AACC, is the Vice President of Business Development of InTEC of San Antonio. She grew up in San Antonio and received her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UTSA.
Kausi’s commitment to business, education, and the arts community is evident in her diverse activities and affiliations. In 1998, she started working as an engineer at InTEC, a professional engineering company, and is currently responsible for marketing and business development. Kausi, a North East Independent School District graduate, is working with the district to help improve math literacy in the high schools in NEISD. Kausi is the current President of the San Antonio Dance Umbrella and was appointed by Mayor Phil Hardberger to serve on the board of The Cultural Collaborative, the City of San Antonio’s initiative to increase funding to the arts. She is also a board member of the Arathi School of Indian Dance and has been teaching classical Indian dance for the past 12 years. Kausi represents Alamo AACC as a board member of the Free Trade Alliance of San Antonio. Ms. Subramaniam is also the Chair of the India Task Force, a committee with the responsibility of helping the City of San Antonio develop a Sister City relationship with a city in India. Kausi and her husband have a son and a daughter, ages 9 and 5.
Born and raised in Japan, Mr. Seki completed his B.A. in Political Science in Tokyo, and MBA at Roosevelt University, Chicago, Ill. He returned to Japan, and worked for over 15 years with American and Japanese companies in the semiconductor/electronics industry. Today, he performs marketing research and sales consulting for automotive, plastics resin/molding, semiconductor and electronics industries, and retains a partnership with Fuji Keizai Co., Ltd., Japan. Fluent in English and Japanese, and learning conversational Spanish, Mr. Seki has traveled throughout Europe, Southeast Asia, the US, as well as resided in Finland for a year. He holds memberships in numerous organizations including the Japan America Society of San Antonio, Lions Club International, American Motorcycle Association, Jazz Institute of Chicago, and San Antonio Blues Society.
Katherine Kimm is General Manager and co-owner of WestEast Design Group, LLC an architectural firm in San Antonio. Born in Korea and raised in Toronto, Canada, Ms. Kimm is fluent in both English and Korean. She earned her bachelors degree in Linguistics from the University of Toronto and began her professional career as a technical writer for a software company in Toronto. After marrying a Korean-American architect and moving to the United States, she continued her career in Austin, Texas and New York, New York. With the birth of her daughter, and shortly thereafter her son, Ms. Kimm’s career ambitions paused and regrouped. She dedicated six years to being a full-time mom, an experience she touts as the single, most crucial factor in training her for the challenges and success achieved in her position with WestEast Design Group.
Born and raised in India, Ms. Patel completed her B.A. in Hindi and English. She married a businessman in India and became a homemaker for ten years, had two children, and cared for twelve family members. In 1990, Ms. Patel and her family left India and headed to New Zealand without any money. Within six months, she owned a convenience store. In 1995, Ms. Patel left New Zealand for America and settled in Phoenix. In Phoenix, she managed a dry cleaning store. In 1996, she moved to San Antonio where she chose to work in the hospitality industry. Within three years, she was a co-owner and assistant manager of a Motel 6. She currently works as an interpreter for Social Security. Ms. Patel is involved in many different community organizations. For three years, she was involved with Sursangam, a music club. She is part of numerous fundraising committees with the Hindu Temple of San Antonio, Gujarati Samaj, and AAPI. She also personally helps out San Antonio’s Indian Community by interpreting, making doctor appointments, and providing transportation.
Elva Adams was born and raised in Taiwan. She moved to San Antonio in 1992 and earned a B.B.A in Accounting from UTSA in 1995. As Business Relationship Manager for the Commercial Banking Department at Wells Fargo Bank, she assists business owners in all aspects of financial services. She began her career with Wells Fargo Bank in 1996 as a bank auditor and in the loan underwriting department. Her professional affiliations include Advisory Board Member of Small Business Economic Development Center (SBDC) and Board Member of Central Texas Association of Guaranteed Lenders. Ms. Adams is very involved in the Chinese community. She founded and is a dance instructor of China Doll Cultural Performing Arts and serves as Activity Director of the Chinese Society of San Antonio. Ms. Adams has competed as a professional athlete of Taekwondo for the past 20 years. Her most mentionable honors were 1987 World Champion, 1988 Asian Champion, and 1988 Bronze Medal in Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea. She is certified as an International Referee by the World Taekwondo Federation and performed as a Spurs cheerleader during the 1992-93 season.
Born in Taipei, W. Elisa Chan spent her childhood in Taiwan and Brazil. She earned a Bachelor of Science in computer software engineering from Beijing University of Technology, and a Masters in computer science from the University of Texas at San Antonio. For thirteen years, Ms. Chan built a career in computer software engineering. Ms. Chan joined Unintech Consulting Engineers in 1998 as President to expand the firm’s operational capabilities. She currently oversees business development and strategic planning initiatives, financial management, marketing and public relations, human resources and information technology for firm-wide operations. Ms. Chan is highly involved in outreach efforts within San Antonio’s Asian community. She is the immediate past President of the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce and has served as President of the Chinese Society of San Antonio. She was appointed by Mayor Phil Hardberger as the current Chair of the China Steering Committee with the Free Trade Alliance to help promote bilateral trade between San Antonio and China. Ms. Chan plays an active role in various professional, business and civic organizations in San Antonio. She serves as President-elect of the San Antonio Council of Engineering Companies (CEC) and as a Board member of the UTSA Alumni Association, the Cancer Therapy Research Center, and Southwest School of Arts and Crafts. Ms. Chan serves on the Executive Committee of the San Antonio Mobility Coalition (SAMCO), and is an active member of the Texas Women’s Forum and SA 100, organizations promoting personal and professional growth of women leaders in the community. In 2003, Ms. Chan was recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal as one of the 40 Under Forty Rising Stars in San Antonio. She is married to Unintech’s founder and CEO Clifford Hew and has a six-year-old daughter, Nikola.
Born in Bangladesh, Nooruddin Kara immigrated to the United States twenty-four years ago. He attended the University of Houston and is currently the President of Intellica Financial Services. He was a founding Director and now serves as the Vice-President of the South Texas Merchants Association. The South Texas Merchants Association is a cooperative of small business owners based throughout South Texas who have provided assistance to small businesses since 2000. Mr. Kara has been actively involved in community service for the past 15 years and has continued his retail interests for over 14 years. His wife, Waheeda, is also actively involved in community service. The couple has three beautiful children, Shaya, Tabreez, and Kas.
Mr. Jeffrey Liu is the President and CEO of JMW Technologies, Inc. Born in Guangzhou, China, Jeffrey Liu earned his Bachelor of Science in Zhejiang University, one of the top three universities in China. He worked for Exxon and Sony, U.S.-China & China-Japan joint venture companies, respectively, in China. He then obtained his Master of Science in Computer Science from Texas A & M University. Mr. Liu’s graduate project, “Texas Watch Environmental Database Internet Interface System”, was supported by several national computer and science organizations including USENIX National Computer Association, Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc., National Science Foundation, and Texas A & M University. With more than 16 years of IT industry experience, Mr. Liu founded a U.S.-China Joint Information Technologies company JMW Technologies, Inc. to bridge the U.S. - China IT market exchange. Mr. Liu is also a licensed senior financial associate of one of the largest financial companies, AEGON Corporation, with total assets ranking in the top 80 worldwide.
Kaushik (Nick) Naik is Owner and President of Alamo City Hotels/Baywood Hotels, a hospitality company with a solid portfolio of hotels. Born in Nadiad in the state of Gujarat in India, Nick speaks English and Gujarati fluently. He earned an MS in Elecro Optics and a BS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and began his career as a University Lecturer. In 1988, Nick moved to the United States and worked as a Design Engineer. In 1995, Nick became the Owner/Developer of Alamo City Hotels/Baywood Hotels, which is now a strong and growing company with a vast portfolio of 75-hotels in the United States. Nick and his wife, Hina, have two sons. Nick is a loyal Spurs fan, likes to play cricket, and watch the old Three Stooges comedies. He enjoys community and civic involvement.
Melinda Rodriguez, PT, DPT is the CEO of Access Quality Therapy Services (AQTS), a specialized home health and outpatient rehabilitation agency focused on the treatment of neurological and orthopedic conditions based in San Antonio, Texas. Ms. Rodriguez serves on the board of directors of several non profit groups such as the Alamo Area Parkinson’s Support Group, APDA South Texas Chapter and is a professional advisory member of numerous organizations. She is part of the new member committee of Oak Hills Country Club, San Antonio,Tx. She is also the rehabilitation committee chairperson for the Alamo Area Home Care Council. Melinda also serves as a board member and the co-chair for the public relations committee of the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce. In 2005, Melinda was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to serve on the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for a four-year term to be completed in 2009. Also in 2005, Melinda was selected as one of San Antonio’s top entrepreneurs under 40 by the San Antonio business community and was awarded the “Rising Star Award: 40 Under 40” for 2005. In 2006, she was one of the 3 awardees of the Latina Business Excellence Award sponsored by UTSA, Compass Bank, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Telemundo. In August, 2005, her home health agency, Access Quality Therapy Services was ranked the 7th largest San Antonio home health agency by the San Antonio Business Journal. Recently, AQTS was awarded the 2006 Community Service Award, business category by the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce at their 3rd annual awards banquet. Melinda lives in San Antonio with her husband and two children and enjoys family activities, religious devotions, Tai Chi, traveling and the theater.
Harpreet Singh was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Mr. Singh has been with Karta, the largest privately held defense contractor headquartered in San Antonio, since his graduation. He also worked in the family business for three years prior as a part-time consultant. Currently, he serves as an Account Executive in the Business Development arm of Karta. Amidst the academic and professional responsibilities, Mr. Singh has been able to contribute to the community in a variety of ways. He is an active participant in the Sikh community, particularly as a volunteer with the Sikh Research Institute, a non-profit 501(c)(3) based in San Antonio. He has delivered workshops around the country regarding the Sikh faith. In the local community, Mr. Singh’s dedication to education offered him an opportunity to serve on the Northside Independent School District’s Bond Committee. He has also enjoyed coaching basketball for youngsters through the YMCA program.
David J. Trevino, an attorney from San Antonio, focuses his practice exclusively on Immigration and Nationality Law. He provides a full array of Immigration services ranging from non-immigrant matters to removal defense. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Radio, Television, Film in 1990. In 2002 he graduated from St. Mary's Universty School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2003. David is the co-chair for the San Antonio Bar Association's Immigration Section and is a member of AILA, American Immigration Lawyer's Association.
A native Texan, Tom Willems is the President of Pernox, Inc. Pernox, Inc. is a technology, consulting, engineering and staffing firm. Pernox, Inc. facilitates and provides solutions for staffing needs by recruiting and providing quality engineers and other skilled staff members. Mr. Willems has worked in the IT Sector since its inception and has spent his adult life in the technologies and engineering industries. He has conducted business in the Pacific Rim since 1985. He is a Corporate and Samaria Member of JASSA (Japanese American Society of San Antonio) and was recently a Texas Delegate to the ACHI World Expo in Japan. He currently sits on the China Steering Committee for the city of San Antonio.
Mr. Willems has been involved in large and small scale projects with technology communication and engineering as well as staffing projects in China, Japan, South Korea, Dubai, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, and the United States. Because of his varied background,
Mr. Willems has been instrumental in providing companies with Engineers and other qualified personnel, technology products and even raw materials. Lastly, but most importantly to Tom is his 21 year old son, Simon Willems. Simon is currently a senior at UTSA. He is ranked in the top 5% of the nation academically; which Tom is quite proud of!
As Vice President of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF), Mitsuhiro “Mitsu” Yamazaki is responsible for attracting new businesses and industry to San Antonio. Fluent in Japanese, English, and Spanish, Mr. Yamazaki possesses the communication tools necessary to recruit international prospects. Before joining the SAEDF, Yamazaki served as manager of business development of W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company where he promoted the firm’s construction services to industrial and commercial clients, especially in the automotive industry. Mr. Yamazaki was recently selected to join the elite “40 Under Forty Rising Stars 2004”. He has a B.A. in International Studies and an M.S. in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Ann Yao, CPA/MBA, graduated with a MBA degree in Accounting from Angelo State University. In 1997, Ann began her professional accounting career in the private sector. Later she started in public accounting where she has spent the past 5 years, part of which was with a national accounting firm as a Tax Senior. Currently she is a partner of Anderson, Johns & Yao CPAs, PC. Her professional affiliations include AICPA, TSCPA and local CPA Chapter. As a dedicated member of the Asian community, Ann was the immediate past Treasurer of the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce, and has held a membership chair on two international associations. Ann also serves as an Assistant Treasurer at the First Chinese Baptist Church. Ann and her husband Ken have one daughter Allison, age 3 1/2.

Mayor Announces Chennai, India Sister City Agreement
On Wednesday, February 27, Mayor Phil Hardberger and Chennai, India's Mayor M. Subramaniam signed a Sister City agreement between the two cities. Alamo AACC President, Kausi Subramaniam, was part of an 11 member delegation that traveled to Chennai to sign the agreement. During a teleconference, Mayor Hardberger discussed how San Antonio's Sister City agreement with Chennai will lay the foundation for significant economic and cultural exchanges in such areas as commerce, health, education, and technology.

Free Trade Alliance Trade Mission Led by Mayor Hardberger Returns from China
On Monday, October 1st, representatives from the City of San Antonio, led by Mayor Hardberger and comprised of city and business leaders, returned from a ten-day trade mission to China. Cities included in the trade mission were Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Xian.
